City-States is a roleplaying game set in a ancient Mediterranean-like world. I got this idea after reading about the Trojan War and Ancient Greece. City-States focuses, specifically, on the numerous small states vying for power in this world.

Can we start getting into rules? Like, how much land can I claim, assuming no one is there? Or will there be random encounters with tribes and wild animals? How about weather and environmental catastrophes? Is the land of a certain type, so that crops can be grown in some places but not others? Should I just keep a d20 on hand at all times? This is my first time in something like this, so naturally I have a lot of questions.

Yeah, I have a tendency to start into RPG's recklessly...Not sure about all that stuff. Basically, however, it is a really similar area to Ancient Greece. So, the weather/environmental stuff: maybe a volcano or two, and there will occasionally be other stuff. Also, everyone starts out with 15 pixels of land on the map. You can expand for free w/my approval, but most of the time you will need to pay/go to war/negotiate/stuff like that. And we don't require dice here. Since you're familiar with 10000 Islands (of course ;D), it's gonna be similar to the roleplaying done there. Basically: No God-modding, you roleplay everything between nations. So, that's the answers I have for your questions so far. Hope they make sense .

So when does this thing actually begin? or is there even a 'begin'? I'm new at this.

Here's what I'm planning: we now have enough players to start the game. So we'll start in the next day or two. I'll get some things set up, and you guys can roleplay stuff and start your own situations as well.
